Choosing the Right Gemstone: What Your Astrologer Must Tell You

Wearing the wrong gemstone can be worse than wearing none at all. Before spending on a Ruby, Blue Sapphire, or Emerald — here is what your astrologer must examine in your chart.

Why Gemstone Selection Must Be Chart-Specific

The Navaratna — nine gemstones corresponding to the nine planets — are powerful amplifiers of planetary energy. But amplifying the wrong planet in your chart can aggravate problems rather than solve them.

For example: Blue Sapphire (Neelam) is associated with Saturn. If Saturn is a beneficial planet in your chart (yogakaraka), wearing Neelam can bring spectacular results. But if Saturn is an adversarial planet for your Lagna, wearing Neelam could trigger health problems, financial losses, or relationship crises — often within days of wearing it.

The Correct Process

  1. Analyse your Lagna (ascendant) and identify which planets are naturally benefic for it
  2. Check the current Dasha-Antardasha to identify which planet is most active
  3. Assess the planet's placement, dignity, and aspects in your chart
  4. Identify the specific life goal (health, career, marriage, wealth) to determine the target planet
  5. Recommend the primary gemstone AND safe substitutes

Gemstones to Approach with Caution

Blue Sapphire (Neelam) for Saturn, Red Coral (Moonga) for Mars, and Hessonite (Gomed) for Rahu are highly powerful stones that must never be worn without proper astrological clearance. These three cause the most harm when incorrectly prescribed.
